Putting our dancing shoes on in support of The Focus Foundation

How are you feeling about the competition?

I am excited about Maccabi's dancing strictly, but I am also very nervous because it's   something I have never done before.

 

Why are you representing the Focus foundation?

I want to raise awareness about visual impairment and sight loss, and show people that with the right support, anything is possible.

 

What song will you be dancing to?

I will be dancing to Robbie Williams' Puttin' On the Ritz. 

 

How is the dancing instructor helping you?

My dancing instructor is kind, patient, and very thorough. Although they are strict, they are   fair and always encourage us to improve.

 

Have you ever done anything on stage before?

When I was at school, I was part of the theatre group, where I enjoyed performing in productions. I also sing with the Prestwich Community Choir, which has helped me develop my confidence

 

What challenges will you face during practices being visually impaired?

My dance instructor is aware of my visual impairment and has taken steps to make sure the stage is safe for me. They ensure the performance area is clear so that I can move around confidently without the risk of tripping or falling.

 

Do you think you’ll win the competition?

I don't mind whether I win or lose. My goal is to show people that having sight loss does not stop someone from taking on new challenges and achieving their goals. I hope to inspire others to believe in themselves and show that, with determination and support, people with sight loss can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
